Know Your Ration Card

A Ration Card issued by civil supply and consumer protection department managed by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation run by Tamil Nadu government is printed by elcot and the above one in the picture is blue colored ration card eligible to get rice.

This ration card is of size 6 x 8 of 100 gsm front sheet and 60 gsm pre-printed extra sheets. Starting from above and this is the front first opening side of  the family card. And wherever you find in the ration card image you find a blank white color space is to the reason of hiding references being my own ration card.

04/G/0000000 - This alphanumeric symbolized running serial number centered can be read as

04 - District of the card issuing authority

G - 

0000000 - is the seven 7 digit serial of the each individual ration card

Specimen Photo - is on the top right corner printed in black and white though the applicant (head of the family) given black or colored photograph that remains same for 4 years or re-issue.

Emblem or Symbol - is the symbol of the govt. of tamil nadu indicates the ration card belongs to this govt and to returned if found unattended or not required by the card holder to the respective commissioner or assistance commissioner of the ration card office.

Hologram - is the extra safe security implemented to secure and prevent duplicate ration card in run and eliminate duplicacy. The hologram has the running serial number which is seen when looked with bared hand shaked slightly and it is material that can be read through computerized hologram reader correctly.

Language - This ration card is printed in both local tamil and english language wherever needed.

குடும்ப அட்டை Family Card - states that it is a family card

2005 - 2009 - is the validity period of the given ration card which is generally four or 4 years

உனவுப்பொருள் வழங்கல் மற்றும் நுகர்வோர் பாதுகாப்புத்துறை Civil Supply & Consumer Protection Department - indicates that this card is issued by this and belong to this department unless or otherwise cancelled.

அரிசி - which means rice in english mentions that this ration card is of rice commodity type and is eligible to get rice for sure along with other grains like sugar, maida,wheat, palmolein, kerosene, and others.

Blank Space (வட்டம் Circle) - is the circle of the card issuing authority for the ration card holder's residence address

கோட்டம் / வார்டு Division / Ward - is the ward or division number of the address covered

தெரு எண் - which means street number in english originally approved by the department of town and country planning and further customized by the respective departments for various use is the card holders residing street number (or name)
